Great Ribston with Walshford is a hamlet that originally stood on the A1 (Great North Road). The village has now been bypassed with the upgrade of the A1. The first recorded information about the village was in 1214 when it was called Walleford. The ford has disappeared. The Bridge Inn is a hotel in the village which used to be an old coaching inn.
Cattal
